Metric part, Inch tool

Hi,

First off let me state that I am new to MasterCam but am trying to learn it at my friends shop in my spare time.

I am trying to create a toolpath for a part in MCx5 that was drawn in Solidworks 2010 and all Dims are metric. When I make a toolpath and assign Inch tools like a 1/4" endmill it makes a very fine toolpath and the verify shows a very small Endmill. I noticed that the tool ends up with a diameter of .25, so I assume it thinks it a .25mm tool instead of a .25inch tool. When I made a custom toolfile and made a "6.35" flat Endmill then it looks ok.

Do I need to always use Metric equivalents when using metric parts, or is there a way to make MC understand that I am using inch tools for a metric part?

Thanks,

Buy me a Beer?

Look at the bottom right corner of the graphic screen ....Metric or Inch config loaded ?
-you cannot mix units
- if you want to work in imperial, select the inch configuration file. All features would be in those units
- mertic, select the MM.config file and let mastercam scale all the items

imperial tool in metric session, 0.25 is a metric size, not 1/4"--you should use 6.35 for the 1/4" size

shortcut HINT
in any field, a maths function can be used, inch session, try typing "6.35mm", it will convert to 0.25.
Metric session, use the "in" to designate it an imperial size

I can't believe this hasn't been addressed yet. It was a joke in V9 more than 10 years ago.

Sure there is an easy work around but?
Is there any good reason the software couldn't scale the tools when you select them from a metric library or vise versa? I have not noticed this type of problem in any other software recently.

Mastercam sure has come a long way.

Hi, open mastercam-click open file- choose file and click bottom right- options - scale to imperial, or open file and scale it to imperial with xform scale, if you want to use a imperial tool library. or change your config to metric.
