Teaching myself 5 axis programming. Need examples.

I'm a fairly new programmer, with just over a year of shop experience.

One thing I still haven't attempted is 5 axis programming.

I would like to get a look at examples of 5 axis programs. I would like to see how other Mastercam users program for 5th axis work.

If anyone here is allowed to share any of their files, I'd love to look at them. I won't be running any parts or sharing the programs, just studying methods so I can improve my own abilities.

My email address is fscott at austin dot rr dot com.

Sincerely,
Frederic Scott

I enjoyed the book, "Secrets of 5-Axis Machining", by Karlo Apro. It isn't cheap, but seems like Industrial books never are.

Would love to see this thread pick up a bunch of 5-axis sample programs posted. I'm going to want to try them out on the G-Wizard Editor when I get to doing more than 3 axes, which will be a little while yet, LOL.

Cheers,

BW

There are some sample files available from the mastercam website. They're not too in-depth but they're a start.

5 axis programs can vary wildly depending on exactly what type of cuts need to be done.

What version mastercam have you? I might be able to send some random parts....

Positioning or contouring

That is the first question.

If I get some free time I can show it all.
There are no mysteries to this.

Buy me a Beer?

I'm new to 5 axis programming, Im glad I had quit my old job and accepted this research position that I get to learn and pratice. sometimes my head feels like exploding but it's just a fase a good fase I think...

Noticed that emastercam website has lots of examples even verisurf x5 that u guys can dowload too.

Theirs some good people in here that gave me lots of support when I needed the most even dealing with the post.

I would like to check out other projects too, I'm still having difficulties on how to apply toolpaths on 5 axis and had concluded that mastercam 5 axis programming capabilities are not that great.

Althought I can't post my projects in here because they are all prototypes and very underground stuff...

hi BobWarfield

I'm looking for material that would allow me to understand different ways of setting-up the stock on a 5th axis machine that does not compensate axis movement.

what I mean is in a normal DMG machine if you place the stock in one of the corners of the table and find the origin, that machine calculates and compensates all the axis movements.
now with certain machines we have to physically input those numbers ourselves on the post-processor and working environment of the CAM package that we are using.

does he talk/explains about this at all in the book?

thank you

I would get Karlos book. he is the Top 5axis guy for Mastercam software.
He specialized in 5 axis before working for CNC software. His book goes into different theories of 5 axis.
And as stated there are allot of files on the FTP on the Emastercam forum as I know as this is my FTP for that board. So review.
