Ummmm.....huh?

I think we are going to either need a translator or some more info here. I'd love to help, but have no idea what you are trying to do.

What I try to do is giving a new toolbit / tool holder a known position in Mastercam X, I like to use multiple tools / holder with a different offset to the part in the chuck or collet.
This instead of zero out each tool I like to save this position in the tool library

Hoop that it gives you more info on what I like to do?

Thanks for your quick reponse,

Robert

Buy me a Beer?

You responded 1st Tim....I'll leave this for you

Robski....I'll see if I can translate

You want to have your tool build length ( tool tip to spindle distance ) and to have this figure in your mastercam tool library ?
and have mastercam output this in it's NC code ?

Big query.....what is your machine controller ?
you may need to looking at how you run this machine from a different proceedure
ie
- set all your tools to a common length
- use a "length gauge" to set the distance from the tool tip to the top of part

there are other options available, but we'll see where your answer leads us

That doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I think the controller is best for handling tool length.

If you set your tools with a probe or one of the positive offset height gages, then all you ever need to do is quickly pick up the position for -Z- location one time for each part setup (G54) and they (all of your tools) will all be correct. The way you are trying to do it is going to be disastrous and tedious since it seems to leave a lot of room for error, and any any any tiny change in tool height out on the machine will result in you having to redo your entire program...This is not something to pursue imo...unless I am really missing something here (which could be, - late night last night...)

I would store the different tool offsets in your machine and when you Write the code just go back in and change the H-values that corresponds to the tool+ part combination. This does leave more room for error though.

(hope that helped not sure if i understood what u were asking)

Red face

Thanks for your informations, my way of thinking is that I like to place all tool information in the tool library like the info about what bit is used what radius toolbit angle etc. since my tools are in a quick tool changer on a lathe and like to callout a tool number for a perticular operation. My main reason is that I don't have a standard controller who can handle a tool labrary.
When it not possible in the tool settings I need to look for a different solution.

Thanks again for your supports,

Robert

You may be able to create customized tool definition files by modifying the pre-defined ones supplied to move the origin up to what would be the face of your turret...? Maybe. It's worth a try.

Try creating a custom tool file with the cutting edge at the location needed to define the offset you need in your machine, then program a simple toolpath to see if the code is what you need. If this works you could create a full library with all the tools you have pre-defined.

Rgds,
John
