| I need some help please. I want to engrave the assy number on this part,(see attch mcam x4 file), but i cant seem to get it to work right. Ive tryed axis subsitution, but that dosnt look right. I know that im probally missing something simple. Thanks in advance for any help. |

| Select Axis substitution. Since you have the serial number rolled around the surface of the part, you need to select "Unroll" and enter the Rotary Diameter of the surface that the serial number is on. It looks like that number should be about 13.8 inches. Then go to Linking Parameters. Top of Stock should be 0, and the depth should be a negative number, such as -0.02". You're specifying the depth below the surface, not distance from the origin. It's a little counterintuitive. Think of it this way. Axis substitution takes a flat feature and rolls it around a cylinder. Since you have geometry rolled around a cylinder, you have to unroll it and lay it flat so that axis substitution can do its thing. Hope this helps. Fred |
