Buy me a Beer?
advanced multiaxis/5 axis multi surface

we got this prototype over that is a half a sphere with pockets all around it,

I said we can make it but I never did nothing like this in my life... we have a 5 axis horizontal machine with b and c axis.
I was thinking about clamping the stock material on the c axis and program it using a advanced multiaxis/5 axis multi surface.... but can't get it to work...

I'm just wondering if there is anyone out there that already programmed something like this that would be able to give me some tips...

thanks all

A bit more info would be nice....

anything to hold onto ?
use a 3 jaw and hold the stock ?
holes underneath ? make something that can hold (bolt onto etc) the part, then hold that item

pre-turn the sphere

use 3+2 instead of 5 axis to do each pocket

if the pockets are flat bottom, use that face to set the views

yes we are doing a plate ring with clamps on the outside...

can you imagine a half soccer ball with all those faces?
so this project is something very similar but all the faces have a small round pocket inside...

can you please explain 3+2?
I don't have that option on mastercam...

It is not a mastercam option,
but a method of programming, of using planes and strategies, that don't involve the rotary axes moving while cutting.

you create views of the features that need machining and only do those features that you can get to.

You are using the axes only for positioning,

eg. 5-axis swarf is a 5 axis operation, you can also do it by positioning te axes so you can surface the same feature.....it is a longer way to get the same job done
