Hi there, I am new to CNC as well as Mastercam ... These days I am trying to use Mastercam to do some jobs that hardly writing it by hand ... like 3D fillet of the solid parts, for example ![]() Firstly, I choose a 5mm spher mill with Surface rough -> Contour ... then I got the result like this ... ![]() If using Surface rough -> Radical, then I got another result like this ... ![]() They all far from the target result. The radical one had better result but the toolpath is huge. Not easy for an old fanuc controller. Is there anyone know how to do this ? Thanks in advance... |

| 2 operations would be best to make a more efficient program 1st operation - 2D contour to do the side wall - done with a flat endmill, this also gives access for the next tool to work faster 2nd op -1st choice, would be to use a corner rounding tool wherever possible( 3-4 lines of code) -2nd choice, Surface finish Flowline, alter the flow parameters ( cutting direction, etc) to go around the shape, -- done with a bullmill not a ballnose cutter ( to keep the cutting area away from the central area of the ball Flowline controls the stepover in respect of the surface being formed ( "cusp height" is the height of the crests left between the passes, and Surface contour is type of Z level machining done in horizontal slices, if the surface is angled, then a strategy that slices along it may not be the best choice ) |

That is a nugget of gold there. Damn, I knew 3D contouring with a 3 axis head was a compromise but, I never considered a bull-mill to get the cutting speed up at the low angle areas of the cutting face. I'm ordering some bull-mills this morning. Thank you.
