Catia in Mastercam

I am looking for a Catia translator for Mastercam and it seems the way to go is the Mold Plus translator. From speaking with a reseller, it seems like it just translates the CAD and you can do anything you would with it just like any other model.

Anyone else have experience with Catia files?

I've heard Mold Plus is fairly good
Remember that there are 3 types of catia convertors V4 Read only (.MASTER files) and V5 Read only (.CATpart files ) and V5 Write, They are all purchased seperately.

They can only bring the actual entities into Mastercam as solids (where possible), and if it was a bad solid, you can select to import as surfaces.....wireframe can be chosen to be created when importing ....it is best to create wireframe from a solid as it is cleaner, and does not create double entities as it does from surfaces.
You could convert the surfaces back into a solid after importing.

Cons
They also utilize "maintanence" payment
there is NO solids history.
draft features are NOT imported ie drafting dims, GD&T, notes, etc unless they are converted to lines/arcs,
and it is a good idea to have them supply a dimensioned drawing

An alternative is for them to supply the model in a format you can use ie. STEP, Parasolid, X_T, IGES, STL

IMO-Try to stay away from IGES and STL files....We find STEP is quite a universal format within other CAD systems
