| I model 3d parts all the time using surfaces and solids in mastercam. You are only limited by how well you drive the software as to what you can do.

| Draw the part. Go to View and Viewports. Set the number of views you want . Adjust the views if you want. The File, Print or Print Preview. Mike Mattera

| If you have a Solid, you can use Solid Layout. It does have a generic title block in Mastercam as the Default which you can change. Making prints/drawing for manufacturing kinda sucks in Mastercam compared to creating a drawing in Solidworks. That being said, I made manufacturing drawings at the last job for years using Mastercam because they didn't have Solidworks. It works if you set up the Solid Layout stuff right. Mike in MN

Yes, pretty much really old school and it takes forever to complete. If you do this every day you need a seat of Solidworks. I can have prints ready for part in less than 15 minutes, dimensioned, title blocked, tol., etc. You can export your MC work into SW and save a ton of time. |

| I agree. If you just need a couple of prints, you can do it in Mastercam. If your going to be doing lots of different design, you'll want the flexibility of something like Solidworks. Parametric design is very different (if your not used to it) but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty slick to make changes. Training DVD's are available at the link below or click on the Tips For Manufacturing Banners on the CNCZone site. Mike Mattera

Another one to look at is Alibre, if you are an adventerous hobbyist and the budget and the work load is low their price is pretty low. It is a very infantile program that cannot handle splines very well, BUT, the price is right and for occasional use it is better than nothing. Solidworks does have some free 2D design software, I have not tried it but recall getting an email while back that was promoting it. |
