I am familiar with other CAM system CAM (Gibscam Unigrapgics to name last flew i used ) and i just start using MC. What is not clear for me is FEED and Speed calculation dialog. Actually it is not dialog itself but how feed and speed change. If I renumber tool...or change it diameter feed and speed revert to some parameters not related to my input. Can i prevent this.? and other question what is best practice to create library with feed and speed so parameters are somehow accurate ? I am cutting AL 6061 99% of time and use maybe 30-40 standard diameter tools (1/8..1/4..3/8..etc) sometimes 2 flute and sometimes 4 flute and mostly 3 flute. What are relations between material library and tools. I know we can select how feed is calculated... aether base on tool or material but what MC suggest is way out of what i will use... Any input appreciated...and maybe same link to tutorial ? |

I feel your pain, krosno65. I'm new to Mastercam, too. I wish the feeds and speeds in the tool library where based on peripheral speeds and feed-per-tooth instead of rpm and table speed. I've trained myself since I started machining over a decade ago, to remember a material and setup's optimal spindle speed in metres/min and feedrates based on mm/tooth. I'd say it's the years spent on Mazak machining centres that have taught me to think this way. It's a reach for the calculator every time, then... Luke.

I have no problem with feed and speed base on material and tool. I notice that old MC versions did not have chip load and SFM in tool dialog. Like i mentioned before WHY adjusting tool diameter by 0.001 will reset FEED and SPEED. Actually i can understated that. Whoever programed that part of software didn't want to make this section recalculate itself and was expecting major changes in toll diameter...ok i can go with this but RENUMBERING tool order reset FEED and SPEED and this is something what is not logic in this tool/feed speed interface. Changing tool from 4 flute to 3 flute should recalculate feed, RPM should stay constant and it does not. I don 't want to complain ..j just want to learn ASAP. Constant adjustment to FEED and Speed is very annoying and time consuming..... HELP please

there are some options in the tool setting. U can use either user define or default or from tools or from materials. In order to get in the box, after u open matercam, click on Machine Type and pick any type or default. After that on the box Operation Manager U will see machine group in there. Expand Properties-Mill and U will see Files, Tool Settings, Stock Setup and Safety Zone, click on Tool setting and practice on those to see what option you like. Good luck,

I think that the easiest thing for you since you mention that you cut primarily aluminum would be to make a custom material file with your particular feed/speed settings loaded. A friend of mine has his file set-up for tool steels since that is all he cuts, and his specific experience for cutting is defined in his file. Works great for him...I cut castings alot so there is no one setting for a material that will work day in day out.
