New to X3

Hi Guys,

I'm currently trying to get to grips with X3. I've used V9 before now but not a lot, mostly 2D stuff, but now it's time to move on to some 3D surfacing stuff. I've just completed an online course that had 14 lessons in total. It's been a big help in getting me started but it's mostly "Click here click there, select this select that". I've kind of gone through it parrot fashion and not fully understood what I'm doing or why as there's not enough of a detailed explanation. Does any one know of any really good online courses or DVD's etc that are in "METRIC", as I'm in the UK and don't work in inch. I can find plenty that are in inch but it gets to be a pain converting everything.

Also. I want to set up a mill so it's there in the machine type drop down. The machine is a Hurco VMC and I have a V9 post processor for it that I edited with some help on here a while back. How can I do this? How can I import the V9 post processor.

Lastly. In the operations manager pane under machine groups I have to set up the tool settings file for every job that I do. It's "Assign tool numbers sequentially", "Warn of duplicate tool numbers" and "sequence number start and increment". Is there any way of setting this as a default setting?

That's it for now but I'm sure there'll be more soon.

Any help?

Probably because you used the word "Metric" and we all looked the other way....

Regular 3D Surfacing toolpaths (no metric, but I dont see why it matters. units are units)
http://www.tipsforcadcam.com/product/TFM-CDM3X
3D High Speed Toolpaths (developed in X4, but 95% will apply to X3, X2 and X users).

Surface Design and Solid Modeling

We dont do the "click here" "push this" training. We're not just showing you the motions, we tell you the why and how of using Mastercam.

Discounts for multiple CD purchases.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks mike, I thought it might be that. You're right, units are units. I've been thinking about it a lot. I'm probably better setting X3 to inch and doing a few of your courses. I've watched one of your sample videos and it's a lot better than the course I've just done. Is it fairly easy to change the units to inch? Also do you cover things like setting up a machine type, importing and modifying posts, outputting NC to the machine etc?

Throughout the different CD's we do cover setting system defaults (Incrementing Tool Numbers, and stuff like that). Our training will cover the things that will relete to the type of toolpath (or design) that were teaching. If your using X3 I would recommend the Introduction to X3 CD. Lots of good stuff. Once you purchase that, I can get you a link to some V9 to X transition videos that will also help you.

When you update the post it will create a Machine Def and Control Def.

Exactly! Units are Units!! And if it makes you feel better, at the end of a session select the metric environment and mastercam will convert everything for you.

Ok, thanks for that. I'm going to go for some of your CD's mike. Maybe not just straight away but very soon. So are you ok shipping them to the UK. Will I have to pay import duty on them?

Well if it's up to my government mike I'll have to tighten my belt. No doubt they'll try to have my trousers down and spank my arse.

Thanks for your help.
