I have this fan model I'm trying to cut using a rotary axis. I can't figure it out. I tried both of the 4ax tool paths, pocket with rotary, on and on, I'm just beating the head against the wall. I just need a little point in the right direction. I posted up on the MC forum, got one reply so far said to look at 5ax toolpaths, I'm in way over my head there. |

| Can you convert the drawing to DXF or IGES format? |

| No I can select drive surfaces fine, no problem there. I tried that, with the 3 axis tool paths and boundries drawn above the part. The tool paths just seemed to cut right through the part, I was using pocket toolpaths for that attempt thinking I could just transform and rotate the toolpath if I could just get one section cut right. |

I feel for you man I was there about 2 years ago. I use Gibbs cam and came up with a turbine fan blade and couldn't get any help. what I ended up doing is plotting points along the edges of the fine and cutting a contour around the finn and doing what you suggested earlier and rotated around the part. I know better how to do the solid model thing in gibbs. so hopefully someone hear has gone thru this as well. are you doing it for profit or fun? If a customer gave you the file ask them how they generated the curves because if they have the formula for the curve then you can use it to program a cutter path. If they just made it up well then how are they going to check it?

| Nah just for fun..I'm trying to learn 4 axis positioning, roll die, contouring etc. If I was serious I'd be knocking on my resellers door right now. I did e-mail him but he has not gotten back to me. I've had MC for a few months now, bought it just to do 4 axis work and eventually 5, it's been an absolute ***** to learn (or try anyway) how to use. |

| nervis, this can be done several ways. First, are you trying to only finish, or do you also need roughing? Which of the 2 tools do you want to use (you have a ball nose, and another that I can't remember off hand). After you answer, give me a couple minutes...... ![]() By the way, what's your email address? and I'll just email it to you.
