Wink Question about Mastercam and its "stock set-up" page.

I have a simple question.

I just started with mastercam, so when I open the "stock setup" page/tab, at the botton right there is a little window that says "Tool Clearance" along with "rapid moves" and "entry/exit" ready to be set. What exactly does this means an does?? I've been usign the default, but, I really want to know its actual purpose.

Thanks!

You should use the operation manager to setup the stock, assuming your using at least mastercam x. Open the op manager then choose your machine, once this is done you will see the tree on the right generate. Find stock setup, open and adjust to proper size. This should be done after you set your wcs and before you start your tool operation verification.

Thanks for your reply!

I've been programming already, and I'm familiar with the basic steps like machine selection, stock, geometry and toolpaths for lathe and mill except for 4 axis, I always navigate the help menu whenever I'm wondering about something.

But, I just can't find this particular thing that I'm wondering about, let me tell you exactly where it is: in the "operations manager" tab you have the "Machine group properties" tree-branch, so when you go to your "machine group properties tab" (for lathe) you have the "stock setup" branch and once you click on this branch (stock setup) it shows you all the options to set your chuck's parameters, stock's parameters and so on, now, at the bottom right of this particular page/tab you have a little window that says: "tool clearance" and right below it says: "rapid moves" and "entry exit"...there you have it.

I just can not find the exact purpose and actions of "tool clearence" in the help menu.

BTW, I'm using MasterCam x3.

Are you using for Lathe or Mill? I am currently running X3 mill level 3 and i can't seem to find the button where you describe it to be. It could be used to set up a safety zone around the workpiece? I'm not really sure

It's for lathe, I just mentioned it in my previous message, also, it's not a button to press on, it's a little square frame with blank spaces for you to fill.

Thanks anyway.

Hi, if you click the ?(help) button in the stock setup menu and then click the tab "field definitions" in the help menu you will find some short information about the Tool Clearence fields. Maybe that's what you're looking for, see uploaded image.

To: Limpan,

Thank you very much for your help!!

Probably I'm not patient enough to navigate the help menu, lol, but, I really appreciate your reply with such helpful info and the attached image.
