c&g systems aviator diy 3d router?

I recently was given a c&g systems aviator plasma (without the plasma system) with a burny 3 controller. From what I have gathered, the burny3 is outdated and is basically junk for what i want to do. I am trying to figure out what I will need to do to convert this machine into a 3d router for making various decorative pieces. I will be building my own table, I have not decided if I will go with a vacuum table or clamp table yet. My budget is rather small, as I do not want to sink too much into this machine at this time. I will be making my own holder for my cutting device, which is a craftsman 2/3 hp router. I have experience with cad and cam programs for plasma, and I currently use turbocad. Any insight and ideas I can get from here would be great. I am wanting experienced advice on which cam program and motion control hardware and such would be best and most cost effective for what I want to do with this machine. Thank you in advance!
