I don't see your region curve in the picture. Is it above the surfaces or below? What happens if you try the contour option?
What type of tool are you using? Ballnose or bullnose?
Thanks,
Dan

I'm running file version 4.3 2011-11-17
my region curve is on the surface. I utilized Duplicate Face Border to create it from the contour face of a closed polysurface.
I'm using a Ball mill with the default options as they load for inches
I just discovered that I get a similar result on the belly contour when using ZigZag Y, but not in the X direction
I'll get this model sanitized and ready to send off within the next 24 hours
all the best,
R
Well, don't post it here. Send it to Madcam (where it takes effect software wise).
Hi Rodent,
Do you mind trying a little experiment? Can you take your region curve and project it to a flat plane above the surface file? Then run the path shown in your screenshot again, using that new, flat, region curve.
For what it's worth, I've had cases where having the region curve on or below the surface has caused problems. All my region curves have been projected flat and sit above the surface file. I've had continuing success using this method for the last couple of years.
I'm just playing a hunch here. It might not make any difference, but then again...
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,
I finally got to test your workflow ... and I get identical results using my initial workflow and the one with the curve projected to a surface above the part. Thanks for the tip - I'll keep this in mind as a back-up alternative option
I have a sanitized repeatable test case off to MadCAM (model + cutter files) so that this 'wild tool path' anomaly can be analyzed. Great news is that this doesn't have my production shut down, and that it merely is forcing me to align the cutting paths along my non-preferred axis
all the best,
R
It was worth a shot.

What's the best way to get updates?
I've had to email madcam, then they send me a link. This best way?
HELP HELP HELP.
I have entry level 4.2 licensing. I created a tool path with V4.2 no problems. Upgraded to V4.3 now no tool paths. I used the same techniques to generate tool paths. I select the model, then select cutter, then 2D profiling, select my curves hit enter it says “can find cutting plane” and DOES NOT create tool paths. I’ve never had to create cutting planes for 2D profiling? Please help. Big project is on the line now.
I must get this working now!
I don’t know how to downgrade.
Please advise.
Regards,
Leonard
Never Mind.
I dumb thumbed it. I was trying to machine a 0.125" groove with a 0.984" cutter. Should have been 0.0984" LOL.
MadCam rocks!!!!
It knows better than I do.
Nothing to see here folks keep moving
Regards,
Leonard
Don't you hate it when that happens! Don't worry, we've all done the same thing at one time or another, at least I know I have.
