Default my spindle is too low..

    Hi guys,

I'm getting ready to test a new (old) router, but the spindle is too low - with a 6mm x 30mm (ish) end mill in the Z height probe won't reach the workpiece.

Is there any problem backing off the spindle mounting bracket and raising the spindle up 30mm or so?
pretty sure I can re-calibrate the tool height measuring setup, but will I have to get a new distance ring for the spindle holder / clamp?

The machine was designed for chamfering steel plates with sub 3mm short bits - was never setup for general cnc milling / routing

    Cheers
    Simon

    Simon,

In the image you posted it appears as if the tip of your Z height probe has a knurled collet that allows adjustment of the tip.
If the tip is not long enough to extend and reach the workpiece or table why not just replace it with a longer section of drill rod?

    Hi mate,
just tried it - no good, it's a screw in tip , same as a dial indicator.

    Simon,

Five minutes to cut and thread a small piece of drill rod or just purchase the correct length screw from the hardware store may be what the doctor ordered.

    Have a most awesome afternoon!
