DRILLING

can some experienced machinist give me some advice .im a cnc programmer and when it comes to drilling i want to peck everything cause honestly i get scared sending drill straight thru .is there a rule of thumb i can go by to drill straight thru parts .any advice will help thanks.

i use this rule of thumb for regular drills 3 x dia. first peck 2 x dia. second peck 1 dia. third peck then i go down to 80% of the drill dia. for any other pecks
if you were to use a 1/4 dia. drill the first peck would be .750 second would be 1.250 third would be 1.500
