    Unhappy alarm 446

    i am setting up a lc 20 okuma lathe and i get a 466 alarm it reads Minus Variable limit over does any one know what is a variable limit position

    It's a safety feature that prevents the tool from hitting the chuck. You can change it in the parameter section of the control. Put the control in manual mode & carefully move the Z axis toward the chuck. Most likely you won't be able to bring the tool right up to the face of the jaws. As an example let's say the tool stops .500 from the face of the jaws. You can then add -.450 to the Z minus variable limit parameter. The tool should now stop .050 from the jaws.

    If the tool was able to come right up to the jaws then you need to face some material off the jaws or edit the program.

    This only prevents that one tool from hitting the jaws. If you're roughing the od with tool #1 then you have to make sure tools #12 & #2 will clear the jaws. This of course depends on the type of tools in #12 & #2, the size the OD is being turned to & the size of the jaws your using.
