Mach 3 and SolidCAM....anyone doing this?

I am very inexperienced user with the following tools:

1. TAIG 4axis CNC
2. SolidWorks
3. Mach3
4. Demos of MeshCAM/SolidCAM

I dont like using all this different software, and am unable to get any of my G-code to work on Mach3, so i was wondering if anyone out there was using Mach3 and solidcam, so I can consolidate alot of stuff.

I would purchase the student edition of solidCAM ($300) and pray that it works with Mach3 and my CNC.

So, is anyone out there using solidcam and Mach 3 on a TAIG or similar? Also, does anyone currently use the Xylotex 4axis board with TAIG and can help me get stuff to work? I set it up so I can manually move my axies on mach3 - but that dang G-Code from meshcam just hates my mach3.

Any suggestions?

Hi, let me know if you get any replies to this I too have CAMWorks with SolidWorks, Mach3 and an Xylotex 4 axis board. If anyone has the Xylotex Post Processor for CAMWorks Please let us know. Thanks!

I did see a Xylotex Post Processor file somewheres for MasterCAM which may do the trick. I'm currently working with MasterCAM X but am still learning the software. On another note I dont think the Student Version of CAMWorks will post I could be wrong though. Good Luck!

The only ( not simple ... )thing you need is a post processor for SolidCAM that is adapted for Mach3. A post processor will tell all the spec of mach3 to SolidCAM and will be able to make a G code file ( a file for all the moves ) that Mach3 understand. If you don't know how to write a post processor, try to find one on the internet or change of machining program. Mastercam is a good choice and there is a post for mach3 ( on the links section of the mach3 site ... ) I wish this will help !

I use SolidCAM with Mach with no problems. Just choose ISO as the post processor (Fanuc is the default). It will be non-machine dependent code and will run fine with Mach.

Hey Sputnik,

how long do you used solidcam with the ISO post, are you doing
2,5 or 3D milling, does it work without faults like this.

i have solidcam and SW2005 and planning to use mach 3.
i just want to make relative simpel 3D r/c parts
i know i can use the ISO generator by selcting it in solidcam, is the basic setup off mach 3 ISO???
or very the same.

Did you had contact with artsoft about it, or do you know it yourself bye experience or work???

would love to hear everything about it.

Hello,
I'm also an user of mach3 with solidcam. And I'm currently working on a model for the taig machine for solidcam. 4 axis, xylotex, etc...
I already have made code with the iso and fanuc post-processor and it works but you must correct the gcode to suit your application, generally it works well. A complex part is going to be finished using this method.
When finished i'll post the xml and related files. It could take some time to finish it, i'm student and exams are coming...
