    Hi Richard.
    What do you mean by 4 -, , - 4 Loop 4 & 5
    5 -' ' - 5 both sides

    6 -, , - 6 Loop 6, 8 & 20
    8 -| | - 8
    20 -' ' - 20 both sides?

    Hello Ned

I mean that the connectors on each end of the cable have pins 4 & 5 connected together, and separately loops between 6, 8 & 20 ..... that is only 3 wires go end to end (2,3 & 7) ..... the cable is nearly always symmetrical. This is good as I say for software handshake otherwise called X-on/X-off .... if your mills need Hardware handshake .... and you use this cable it will crash after 30 minutes or so (hopefully with an error message) I recommend you run it with out work and tools the first time!

    Regards

    Richard

Oh richard we also made a db 25 to db 9 using a diagram for a Acramatic 980 (I think)
Using the Connect CNC program we had G0X100 come up. Do you know what it means?
What program do you recommend to use with your cable pin out arrangement?

    CNC link

    Hello Ned

I consider this cable wiring 'standard' and should work with most software. Software can be found 'almost anywhere' Mastercam, for instance, used to leave a fully functioning version on their demo disk, Hyper Terminal will do a good job in most circumstances.

The data you have seen returned G0X100 is part of a program telling the mill to go rapidly to X100 .... (Y and Z will be considered modal in other words their values will be as the last line of code in which they occur) but if you have received this without error then you have the communication parameters correct as far as speed, parity and data bits .... you may still have a problem after a large number of blocks have been processed.

    Good Luck

    Richard
