Please check the shield cable of RS-232 wire. It must be connected to Ground at one side, while other side must be left open in air. It might be due to external noise pick-up
Dear All,
We have got a 1985 Cincinnati mill with Acramatic 850 , we have
purchased a BTR from Greco , and WinDNC , for short programs drip
feeding is great , but for long program the machine stops moving with
no error on the screen , once we push the start cycle bottom it
continuous
as if never stops , this may happen three or four times in a2 hours
program !! . The stops has no clear pattern and very random ,
Where is the problem ? Any help?
Thanks,
Shadi

The Cable is quality shielded , is the noise the only possible reason ? , could it be from the WinDnc , Is there an under DOS program instead?
Thanks ...

Dear Salhab,
1) Since it is random I suspect a noise problem. It works well on short programs means, buffer is OK on Greco. The problem comes on long programs only. Because, Greco sends sends X-off signal which is acknowledged by Win-DNC.
But, when X-on comes from CNC side, it is not recognized hence machine stops for want of data from PC. X-on & X-off are software hand shake signals.
2) I do not think, DOS based program will solve this problem.
3) The cable is quality shield. OK. But one end must be ground & other end must be open in air to have a proper effect.
4) Try with smaller cable length.
