    Yasnac i80, Rs232 problem

Hi, I have been trying to communicate to my machine through the rs-232 port with no luck. The machine has a Yasnac i80M controller. I am able to sent programs from the machine to the computer(upload) but the program looks like jibberish. When I try to download a program to the machine my dnc software states it is waiting on responce from machine tool.

I have all of the port settings configured the same on both ends.(Data bit, Braud, xon/xoff, etc.)
I think maybe the machine parameter settings are not correct, but have no idea which setting effect the upload and download of programs.

I have connected several machines in the past, but I must say this one has me stumped.

Thanks in advance for any ideas on what to try next.

Jibberish usually indicates baud rate wrong, If you cannot see or confirm what the machine is set to, try uploading to PC, with PC starting at 1200 baud both 7 bit & 8 bit data, and work your way up to 9600 baud.

Ok, I can upload a program from the machine and everthing looks good. However I can not download a program to the machine. Could this be a bad board in the machine. I have traced all the cables back and everthing is ok with the wires. Has anyone ever had this problem?

    I had a similar headache with a MCV510-VF w/I80 control.
Assuming you are using a 3 wire connection without handshaking. :
The I80 control at 9600 baud can only be used with: 8 data bits/ 2 stop bits/ even parity/ xon/xoff disabled. (xon/xoff will only work if you have a partial or full handshaking cable) ie: the machine will wait forever for a DSR / RTS signal

This indicates that there is no parameter related issues now, its only a cable issue I think!!

Try the std.null modem cable (ref the attachment).
