Post Trying to network 4 machines

    Hi,
I am currently in the process of trying to connect 2 Lynx 220's, a Puma 210 and VMC-4220 to the workshop computer with Linksys switch so that we can run the programs directly from our server.
I have the VMC connected and it can find the programs from the host PC but the other machines keep giving me and error about not being able to connect to the folder. Is it possible to have these all connected simultaneously?

I am using TypSoft FTP 1.10 server on Win XP and all the machines have FANUC controls.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Wow that sounds like fun. I've never done that so I'm of no use lol...I'm assuming your having only a connection problem so start with the host pc and make sure it can recognize your other network connections. Then make sure they can reliably communicate then your home free.

I seem to remember hooking up 2 machines to the same network a couple of times, so it should work fine for 4. Have you tried to ping the server from the NC and vice-versa? I believe you have to set up a "user" for each machine in TypSoft.

Yeah, the error I keep getting off of the machines is " Getting a file list failed".
I was unaware of having to have a different user profiles in TYPsoft for each machine, I will try that next, hopefully it works.!

OK, so setting up a new user for each machine didn't work. My problems seems to be that there is no data connection between 3 of the machines that don't work and the host PC. Should i use a standard cat 5 wiring or a crossover one?? The first machine i connected(VMC-4220B) was connected using standard cat 5 wiring and worked once i configured the machine settings, the others don't even light up their respective ports on the switch when i plug them im, I'm at a loss at the moment. I have tested for continuity of all the lines to make sure i wired the rj-45's up properly and they all tested perfect. I don't know what the problem is!!!???

If you're connecting through a router, use regular CAT5 cable. I've read that if you're going direct from PC to CNC you need a crossover cable, but I seem to remember it working with a straight through cable. I'll have to check that again. What if you plug the working machine into another port on the router? Do the LED's come on for that port?

Have you set each machine up with a user name and password? I've attached a document from Doosan on setting up embedded ethernet. Maybe something you've overlooked?

I'm connecting through a 16-port switch and yeah the only port that lights up is whichever port I have the VMC-4220B connected into and that's straight through cabling.
As regards setting each machine up with a user name and password I tried that and still no joy, what I can't understand is why there data ports aren't lighting up on the switch at all. The first machine just lit up straight away. Plus I have also tried connecting the machines straight into the host PC and pinging it and the requests just timed out.
Thanks for that PDF, I'm going through it there now hopefully I'll find something.

Do you have the I/O device set to 9 for each machine?

No light on switch = no connection. There are no exceptions to that. I don't know these machines, but if the patch cable is OK, then that means the network card/port isn't on/enabled.

Yeah that's what I figured but I have checked each machine and they are all set to the embedded ethernet as opposed tot the PCMCIA.

What year are the machines that won't connect? What control models? We've had the Doosan line for about 5 years, and IIRC, Embedded Ethernet was standard before we started with them.
