    RS-232 on Sinumerik 840 D

    Hi,

I have done RS-232 communication on many Sinumerik Controls, but at one customer I find Error while opening the COM Port of CNC. There is no mistake in the procedure I follow. Is there anything in system which enables COM port of Sinumerik 840-D ?

There are 2 machines here, with same problem. As soon as I select a MPF file to send to PC, I get an Error on CNC as Job Terminated. If I see the log, it says Error in opening COM

    Hi,
    Thx for your help.
The problem was in BIOS set up. Simens Engineer had to boot the system with PC key board. He then saved COM-1 port, with IRQ4. Then it worked well.

WOW....that brings back memories. Always seem to forget that the Siemens control is just a PC. But we don't normally deal with com ports much anymore on the PC side. Most computers no longer even have a com port. But that reminds me I do have a com port to USB adapter that I could use on some of our older machines that do not have flash drive support.

Just come back couple days ago from Chiron America where we are passing off for new mails with 840D. Then by February we will have a total of 10 of them passed off. They are coming in for it a time. Hope they don't make changes in the control between each set.
