    PC to CNC communication problem

    New to the board, I have a Toro Cut CNC and have been using a floppy disk to transfer data to and from the pc. The floppy drive went out, so I bought a RS232, 25 pin cord to connect the pc to the CNC. The computer won't recognize the CNC this way. Is there any software available that needs to be used to make this work? I checked the pin out and they are correct.

    You could try DNC software. They have a free trial version available.
    After installing you send a program from your machine to the PC and the software senses what settings to use for comm. It also has pin out configurations.
    cnc and dnc software for RS232 CNC program transfer with drip feeding

    That should get you started.

    Good luck,
    Maz

    Make sure you enable EPP - Enhanced Parallel Port if not already done so.

    Just curious... what does enabling EPP do for RS232 serial communications?

    If I'm not mistaken, your machine is a Bridgeport Torq-Cut, with a DX-32 control.

    If so, you should be able to send/receive programs with any COMM software, such as NCNet Lite, free from CADEM at DNC – wireless and wired, Free DNC for 1 machine

    The cable appears to be a standard Fanuc-style cable:

    DB25 (CNC) <------------> DB9 (PC)
    1 <------ SHIELD -------- (no connection)
    2 <------------------------> 2
    3 <------------------------> 3
    7 <------------------------> 5
    4&5 jumpered (CNC end only)
    6, 8 & 20 jumpered (CNC end only)

    My bad I thought you were using a parallel port, EPP enables two way communication. TYo my knowledge a serial port already has two communication, but I'll verify that.

    Yes, a serial port is bi-directional by nature.
