    Fanuc 300is for Star SR20RIII

Hello all, I'm still pretty new to the forum here. I have a question about our Star SR20RIII. We have converted all of our Star machines to use Ethernet communications, and I've got the 18it-b controllers dialed in pretty good. They are communicating consistently. The problem child has been the 300is controller on the RIII. I figured with it being our newest 20mm machine and it having a PC-based controller it would be the easiest one to get going, but I figured wrong. I've talked to the guys at Star and Fanuc and Fanuc was of no help at all. I am wondering if we have to set up some sort of desktop icon on the office PC and then click and drag the programs over to the icon for the machine. Our Fanuc EDM with a 310is controller works that way. From the Star controller I can see the programs I should see on the Ethernet, but I cannot load them into the machine. As far as I know the formatting is correct, but I am not certain. I was wondering if anyone else had run into this problem, or whether anyone else even uses Ethernet on this type of controller. Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated-thanks for the help.

    Very interesting situation
I believe star had some software for there other models to comunicate via the eithernet but I also believe they discontinued with this software when the 20R-III came out due to the fact that no one purchased the software after large investment costs on the other models.
I have seen several years ago some software that access the controller (18iTB) via the ethermet which was produced by Fanuc.
The only down side to this software is it gave access to every thing about the controller as it was used for R&D tool was its primary use.
The company only used it for upload/download programs and the software was expensive some 8 years ago.
As for the Fanuc EDM fanuc developed the whole package to work together as for the other machine tool buliders they would have to develope there own software to work together I believe.
It sounds like you are just about there with the task of loading software as I would not be surprised there is a parameter that is blocking you or that the machine tool bulder needs to change software to allow you access to the file icon as possibly been setup to block for virus protection.
I would ask Star again if there is some sort of protection and get the dealer to go back to japan for details.
It will be in the too hard basket for the engineers but be insistant and patient for a suitable outcome.
And if you get some results let me know

Thanks for the reply dookie. We actually had one of the guys here from Fanuc today and we figured most of it out. The new 300is controller will not accept anything more than 8 characters for a program name/number and as we now program everything from part numbers that are longer that that we found the problem. Of course, after the Fanuc guy left we found that ethernet communications are working great on Head 1 (They call it Path 1 now) but we can't communicate with Head 2. We are definitely closer than we were, but not quite there yet. There must be something minor we are missing at this point. I guess I'll be giving Fanuc a call in the morning. If we find anything else out I'll let you know, and if you have any suggestions that would be great. Thanks much.
