Buy me a Beer?

Do you have a USB port? If so a USB to RS232 converter usually works, cost around $25.00

Meldas is the model names used by Mitsubishi and they are not rare by any means.
The M50 is a fairly recent control, I have used this model in quite alot of retrofits.

Hi Al
so have you been able to set up some kind of I/O port confg.?
Caboose didnt mention if he is using a cadcam program or not,
I have been trying to set up bobcam sys. but no luck,so far.
Am trying to confg a meldas 50/G 50/L to M5 turning center
to save programs as this has very little memory.

We use the USB all the time but in the begining we did have trouble. Found we had to set up our software to use a dwell after each char.. We use WIN_CNC (Citizen)

USB to serial adapters are problematic. We have been working in the RS232 communication area for over 10 yrs now and with new laptops, a standard DB9 connector is no longer common. Most have an USB port and PCMCIA slot on the side of the laptop.

Tested the $9.99 Ebays, Frys special - upto the B&B, Blackbox ($175) and other serial expert hardware makers /suppliers of USB to serial adapters with random acts of problems (great collection of these things now ) Today a customer used a COMPUSA - I Conquest USB to serial adapter for $29 and sent to the CNC, it started to then randomly start over in the middle of the part program. He used MasterCAM and then shareware DNC and same issue with both. Purchased a PCMCIA card from us and worked like a champ.

If any one has a recommended unit that works reliability every time, for drip feeding and loading to the memory of controls, please share. I have found that most vendors of the USB to serial adapters wrote the drivers for Win98 or NT, then ported them into Win2000 and XP and the hardware is not the same. The operating system and drivers do not work and the buffers seemed to be flakey.

Spend $150 or less and get a working solution with reliability using the PCMCIA card for laptops and serial communication to machines.

Check with Hu_flung_dung, he has just accomplished the wireless to RS232 transmission.
