Need 150Ft Serial Cable

I need about 150ft of shielded nine conductor cable with or without ends. Does anybody know of a good place to buy? Local electronics store priced at 300$. BTW Im running a Fadal VMC 6030 with a 88HS if it makes a difference.
Thanks

You don't need 9 conductors to talk to a Fadal. You can contact Predator Software (http://www.predator-software.com). They have pre-configured "Grizzly" triple-shielded cables w/ 5-year guarantee for $1.50 per foot, including connectors for each end. Plug and play.

The cable you plan to buy has a good chance of never working because it is far too long and also probably has too high a capacitance. The capacitance is even more important.
If you go to this website, you can read the full description, also the max lengths are detailed below here:-
http://www.lammertbies.nl/comm/info/RS-232_specs.html
------------------------------------------------------------
Maximum cable lengths
Cable length is one of the most discussed items in RS232 world. The standard has a clear answer, the maximum cable length is 50 feet, or the cable length equal to a capacitance of 2500 pF.
------------------------------------------------------------
Either you need two repeaters, or a different type of connection, say fiber optic with a RS232 converter at each end......
There are many ways, even a 20ma current loop will (if I remember correctly) work.
I am no expert, but ethernet is also a possible way to go....

We've used these to talk to PLC's over ethernet at my old job:

Not sure how well they will interface to your Fadal...

I can assure you that cable will work, as we have sold the cable for 10 yrs now up to 250 ft with no data loss. The cable is shielded and has a very low Pf, something like 12 to allow for greater distance.
For more info and free shipping on cables this month, visit our website or call me.

Non standard RS232 cable possible problems

It may work, it could work on many different sites.
The problems arise when it stops working, for any reason you may care to name....
Theoretically at least, even Sunspots could even stop such a cable working, every 11 years when sun spot activity is at its worst....
A cable with the correct length, has a much better chance of working under all conditions....
By the way, you should go and buy a new capacitance meter, the one you have is either not working correctly, or the user is not using it correctly, or is making the test incorrectly!!!
The values of capacitance for such a cable length is going to be much higher than what you seem to have measured.....Capacitance is increased with length.....being 3 x over the recommended length will seriously increase capacitance....
Shielding, especially on an over long cable, can dramatically increase the capacitive values measured, slowing signals down even further....
By the way, using an extremely slow baud rate will help a longer cable to work better.....high baud rates will quickly start to error.....
Selling a part that does not follow the correct standards, may make you open to losing a court case at some point in the future. Hopefully this will never happen.....
It just occurred to me of a possible reason why the cables might work problem free as you claim, if they are being used in current loop connection, that can be up to some 10s of thousands of feet long......
I probably do not need to add that I personally would never use such a cable....nor would I recommend its use to anyone else.....Best wishes for few problems....
