CDROM burning via DOS

At one time I had a link for this topic but it got lost.

TOPIC: I am looking for a way to BURN (not read!!!) CDROM's via DOS.

Reason: I have some legacy computers and need to B/U the data on them. The files are too big and/or too many to dump them to floppy's. Besides, the data that we have backed up on some floppy's has gone bad and they were sitting in a well protected remote area. Thus, we want to put the stuff on CD's for B/U.

Does anybody have a link or a method to take a lowly DOS PC and add a program to it that will enable the burning of CDROM's????

You would have to find an old DOS version of CD burning software.
Would it be possible to remove the drive from the old PC and attach it as a second drive to a newer machine. Or perhaps get the old PC on to a network and copy across the network. Remember the old fastlink cables. Another option.

I have some old software that would burn CDROM's. Trouble is, it wouldn't recognize that the burner existed in DOS and or Win 95 = even after we loaded a bunch of ASPI files and the what not.

I had a link at one time to an aftermarket sitewhere a programmer from Europe that supposedly had written some betaware that would allow you to load a program that would emulate enough of Win 98 so as to fool DOS into thinking that it was 98 enough to run a burner.

However that is the link I lost and can't find anymore.

I couldn't find it via Google nor via this fine site's search engine even though I thought it was mentiond, discussed on the site at one time..

Machine packaging issues preclude the possibility of patching in aother HDD for data transfer - if I could do that I would.

Undoubtedly, in this case, the easiest way is to load a program on existing HDD and swap the existing CDROM out for a ROM burner.

There were some good parallel port file transfer programs we used to use in the "good ol DOS days", I cannot remember the program names but I will google for them after work today...they were simple and surprisingly fast.

I was on that site earlier today (just after I posted) and for some reason my popup blocker was turned off, man it was popup central, but as you mentioned there were some neat programs... and much easier to view with popup blocker on...
