Okuma OSP100E RS232 Communication Problem

I'm having trouble with the rs232 communications on my Okuma MCV4020 with the 100E control. Does anyone have a small program that was sucessfully sent between the machine and a pc with the 232 port that you can send as an example. I'm not sure of the exact way the okuma needs the begining and end of the program.

Thanks, Ed

Hi Edster,
On all of our Okuma machines I use the following format at the start/end of the files...

$FILENAME.MIN%

Program code...

% (end of program, just the % sign!)

This allows the controller to set the filename on the machine from the first line in the file, rather than trying to enter the filename when reading in the file.

Hope this helps.
Brian.

Do you need to use O1000 or something after the first % sign?

Yes I do have on the second line a 4 digit program number starting with the letter O... as in O1234
But this is only on the machining centre, not on our lathes.

Therefore a start of file might look like this...

$PPC-11436723OP1.MIN%
O6723
mill mill mill...
blah blah
M2
%

Hope this clarifies it a bit more for you,
regards
Brian.

I take it that your E100 controller did not come with the ethernet option?
A network conection is so much easier for us!
But I guess you can only work with what you have eh!

Thanks, thats just what I needed.

No I don't have the eithernet option yet

I'm working on the sales people on this one. They failed to tell me about the eithernet option or the DNC option for that matter. Imagine buying a machine with an rs232 and 512k of memory and not equipping the machine with drip feed. Geeze my 94 fadal has 422k and drip feed for free not to mention a 38k max baud rate, which I use, compaired to 19.2k for the 05 okuma.

Tell me a little about your machine. How much memory does the control have, Do you have the data server with the extra flash memory? How much extra memory?

Thanks,
Ed

Hi Ed,
We have an Okuma MA600HB 4 axis Horizontal Machining Centre with a 2 pallet system fed by a AGV system, so basically it has many pallet / unmanned capability. We have a 200 tool magazine also.
The controller has a 320m tape length capacity (I think that is around 1MB??)
Don't have the data server you mentioned or any extra memory... mind you we are not making moulds where we would need that kind of memory.
High pressure thru-spindle coolant is certainly a blessing for us as our other HMC only has externally supplied "thru-spindle" coolant which costs us an arm and a leg to byt he coolant inducing tool holders! Boy don't I cry over the bosses decision not to buy that option some 15 years ago!
We also have a Tool RFID system on the machine... still getting to grips with the external read/write system for that.
The MP10 probe system gives me the ****'s every now and then when it decides to not behave (usually just a loose nut on the end of the control panel ) but generally it a great bit of gear.
Love the Okuma system, very easy to use.
Cheers
Brian.
