| What is the configuration of the cable? and try outputting to the PC to see if you at least get garbage, then if so it is probabally a protocol issue, Baud rate etc. Al.

| The Burny controls that I've seen use a special protocol called "CLink". You can ask Burny about it, or you can buy a DNC software package that can talk to it with that protocol. Our PC-DNC Plus has the CLink protocol, and you can find out more about it by visiting the website of our distributor at www.rym.com |

| AFIIK the Burny 3 will accept any DOS or Win based comm. s/w. At least all the ones I have worked with. Hyperterminal is a PITA, there are alot of other options out there. Al.

| Thanks for the info guys, when I get some gibberish of some type I'll know I'm close. It almost seems as though the computer or Burny is waiting for some type of code to let the other know it is ready for comm. I've got the cable wired per Burny manual, 2-3, 3-2 7-7 and a few jumpered at each end. Hopefully I'll get some time this weekend to work on it some more Thanks again Jon P. |

| I assume you have checked the SD data, AFAIK the Burny 3 is the same as the 80, if so the this would be SD50 to set the serial par. This would also be used to set the comm. to the CLINK mode that Dan referered to. But SD50 D1 should be set to a 1 for RTS/CTS Hardware protocol or 2 for XON/XOFF. Al.

| Thanks for the help so far guys. The further I get the more I learn !! Talked to Burny on friday, they said make sure the serial option is turned on, option 2, it was not, so i keyed in 11584620 to turn it on, it says its on now. Then do a SD 78 loopback test, well this is a older Burny and it doesn't have a SD78 so no luck there. I have SD50 set to 2137, should be Xon/Xoff, wadr, e72, 9600 baud I have it set this way on the computer also. Still no comunication. Everything that goes to the back panel apears to go thru LCT6 opto isolaters think I may check thoes next. It sounds like the Burny 3 software has evolved many times up thru the early 2000's , if I understand right the hardware may have even evolved 2 or 3 times also. The earliest one had wire wrap boards, I dont have that but mine is mid 80's vintage, software version 61686A, Serial #5009416, anyone know what the latest software version that would work with this unit? The guys at Burny are helpful but most are not that familiar with this antique control, !! although it sounds like there are still many of these in use. They will gladly upgrade me to a Burny 3.3 for a shade less than 4000.00 but before I spend that kind of money I'lll get something with video. I welcome any thoughts or ideas on my problem thanks again, Jon P. |

| I have always used 2135, 2137 is Special ESSI, I don't know wether that would stop it communicating, however. I can't understand Burny not knowing anything about the 3, there must be heck of a lot out there. Al.

| I have set several of these up reciently. I used the software flow cable that was in the Burny manual - sounds like the one that you made. Here are my notes on how I set it up. Feel free to contact me if you need any help. To save a program: Store Put in or scroll to part number Enter Scroll to serial I/O if not already there Enter To load a program: Load Enter part number Enter Scroll to serial I/O if not already there Enter Param: SD50 Serial Definition D1 D2 D3 D4 2 5 3 7 RTS/CTS, WADR2 SPECIAL WORD ADDRESS, E71, 9600 TC IND original parameter was 6537 for CLink D1 2- Xon 3- Hardware D2 ??? D3 3 Ascii, even parity, 7data bits D4 4 – 1200 baud 5 – 2400 baud 6 – 4800 baud 7 – 9600 baud To get to parameters: Secret button (behind logo B) 10 50 2537 Secret 97 Enter Shift Special communication enhancement must be turned on for automatic Remote Request to work. You need to call burny with your machine serial number to get a code to turn this on, but you do not want it turned on if you are only working with hyperterminal. If you are using a DNC software that supports remote requests it is a very nice feature with this turned on. |
