CNC networking via Ethernet

Hi everyone,

I am really new on the CNCs field so if I said stupid things I apologize in advance.

I'm new in the company and they assigned me the task of networking ten CNCs machines running on Fanuc 32i controls and assign a PC as a server. The objective: Transfer the jobs from the PC to the CNCs instead of using the memory cards.

The CNCs have LAN port and Embedded Ethernet. So, my first thought was to create a LAN network and my first objective is to connect one laptop to one CNC and make the job transference.

I proposed the FTP server option but since the computer functions only as a server without the option of sending the programs from the computer to the CNC, the proposal was rejected. My next bet are the DNC softwares, for example the CIMCO DNC-MAX 6. Nevertheless, it seems it doesn't support ethernet communication, even though in their Distributed Solutions brochure, clearly shows ethernet networking.

I tried to search for guidance on the DNC-MAX user's manual but there is no section related to ethernet communication.

I tried several DNC softwares but all support only rs232. I am wondering if there exists a DNC software that supports ethernet at all.

Hope to get on track.
Thank you all.

FTP is the easiest option and least expensive. Using file zilla you can control what is sent / received extra.

When you say it's server, do you mean ms server?

I can program transfer using ethernet with software i have written.

Unhappy DNC

I am right Now (Today) going thru the pains of full DNC. Our biggest problem is we have 5 different controllers. The BIGGEST Head Ache is the Mazack. getting large program to the hard drive required putting a terminal program on it and then captureing a send and saving the capture to the HD... There has to be an easier way!

BTW we have gone the Wireless route

DNC with CIMCO Software

Hi,

Have you tried CIMCO DNC Software ? It will take care of all 5 controllers for to & fro data communication, including Mazak. Just make sure that all CNCs have RS-232 in working condition.

Revert back to me, if you need further details.
