I think people use a smooth stepper to run USB and mach3
you could check the forums for that might be a good starting point

Work for what?
Drive a printer yes..
Use with Mach NO!
General purpose non time critical I/O yes.
Use with EMC, don't know but doubt it...

Easiest thing to is PCMIA card if you have one of those ports.


Or get a laptop with Par port.


For Mach soothe stepper. will work with USB
There is also a couple other options but you are locked to their software.
Here is one of those options. CNC USB controller

i think i have one pcmia port on my Hp laptop right now there is a small remote to control music. If that's the one so what i have to do to make it work with standard cnc cable? buy pcmia card to parallel port ?

Not sure that would be the best route to go.
I didn't have a parallel port on my desk top so I added a PCI card.
As you have to put the parallel port into ECP mode.
This didn't work well with my setup Mach3 & Gecko g540.
I had to add a port buffer card to get the charge pump to work.
Might be better going the USB route as Mach3 manual states..
