Default 0-MD Simultaneous DNC + DPRNT

I'm trying to use DPRNT in DNC mode on a Fanuc 0-MD machine over I/0 0 (M5 connector) for status and probe position output, but I only the initial DC2 is sent and then the machine quits responding (both to further drip commands and DPRNT commands). The PC side program is just a simple terminal emulator.

Before I get too far into this, I would be interested to know if:
    1) other people are doing simultaneous DNC mode for PC -> CNC transfers along with DPRNT output for CNC -> PC transfers over the same serial link?
    2) Is the PC supposed to respond to the DC2 command? From what I've read, DPRNT output should be sent until the PC sends DC3 to stop the data flow and DC1 to restart the flow.

    %
    O0123
    N0001 (Drip Feeding program)
    . . .
    (Print some output)
POPEN (DC2 is received by PC)
DPRNT [Hello] (Not received by PC)
PCLOS (No DC4 is received by PC

    (Drip feed program continues)
    . . .
    M30

    Thanks,
    Eric

    Hello, Eric.

I can say that this is possible. Some our customers use this feature for machine monitoring (our software can collect this data and export to a database, for example).

In your case the terminal emulator may work incorrectly with hardware or software flow control and does not allow to use this feature.

Thanks for the reply. When the customers use this feature for machine monitoring, are they drip feeding or running programs from memory? The M74 connector is not used, I've heard that I may be able to use that, but I haven't figured out how to have POPEN open that port and digging through the parameters isn't that useful.

I double checked today that the CS signal is on and fine, so the machine *should* be sending the DPRNT output according to the 62543EN manual, p. 104:

    1) NC output DC2.
    (2) NC outputs punch data in succession.
    (3) When data processing is delayed at the external device.
    (a) Data output stops within two characters including a currently
transmitting character when CS signal is turned off.
When CS signal is turned on again, data transmission starts. (See Fig. A)
    (b) If control code DC3 is input to NC, NC stops data output within ten
characters. When control code DC1 is input to NC, NC starts sending
    data again. (See Fig. B)
    (4) The NC starts sending the next data if the CS signal is turned on after
the external device completes data processing.
    (5) The NC issues DC4 upon completing data output.
I guess the next step is just download a program and run it directly to confirm the output stall is just due to a conflict with DNC mode.

Finally got a chance to try this today and using DPRNT from a program does work fine, so it appears that 0-MD can't be drip fed via DNC and output status using DPRNT at the same time (or I haven't found the way to do this yet).

Has anyone managed to use the M5 port for DNC and M74 for DPRNT?
