Multiple lines of text

i've got my machine up an running and really pleased. It's mainly for text engraving and I've fabricated a floating engaving tip (as suggested by some kind person on here) (Lord only knows why they are only available to buy in large sizes) and the engraving has been spot on. Incidently, I am using drag method and using Dremel recprocating tip - all four cats have theirt own tags now!

Next I'm wondering if I can save the settings for use next time, and also if I it is possible to write multiple lines of text? there is only space to write on one line.... I'm using a wizard with Mach 3 in restricted /free mode currently - I don't know if these options are restricted because of this? is there a way to modify the wizard and then save as my own?

Also, I've noticed that 'X' axis start box always self populates with a random number, I keep adding '0' in there but whenever I go back to the set up screen it changes, yes all the others stay at when I last set it.?

Many thanks.

The Write wizard only allows one line of text. There are no restrictions on it, so the license won't add anything.

Are you hitting enter after entering 0? If so, then I guess it's just a bug in the wizard.

Be aware that most of the wizards were created by users and donated for free. They are not supported at all by Artsoft.

Yes, it's possible to modify the wizard. It's written in VB script. Just open the wizard in Mach3, and from the Operator menu, choose Edit Button Script. All buttons that have VB script attached will start flashing. Clicking one will open the VB editor.

Be aware that the Write wizard if by far the most complex wizard included with Mach3, and will probably be extremely difficult to modify, especially if you want to add fonts, as the fonts are all created by VB code.

Hi I have also started to use Mach 3 for engraving, I have done a couple of tags however it takes a long time to set up the text to make sure it is centred on the tag for the size and quanitiy of text. Is there a better way to do this with an add on or macro? Most of the engravinbg machines software does this but is specificly for their machines and is about £900 to buy!

Phatjap - how did you do your cat tags? I did two and they took me a couple of hours!!

Hi
It seems like there is no easy way with Mach 3, until some one proves me wrong. the way I have been doing it is when I've done one line, go back to the wizard and specify the next line of text and specify where the the x and y will start the next line.

However, I've just discovered V Carve, it does multiple lines of text, centeres it, it's really quick and has a huge amount of functions. They do a few different softwares for CNC, if it's mainly text you want to do then CUT2D is what you need, and only £95 and you get a trial to make sure it works on your machine and it uses the Mach 3 post porocessors. Watch the tutorial - very informative, the only difference with the Mach and Vcarve tut is the Vcarve is slightly less comprehensive and I found that it was aimed at people with some reasonable knowledge of CNC, unlike me with very little.

The only trouble is, I forgot I am using the evaluation mode of Mach 3, so as I was happily watching it engrave it just stopped!! At the 500 line limit.

So I'm in the same boat, I will have to buy Mach 3 to run Vcarve.

Think I'll wait.

Cheers.

V carve

VCarth is so pricey though, although I tried it and it does seem good. I have bought the full verson of mach 3, so didn't really want to have to spend much more money. Will check out cut2d.
