I just completed a conversion on a Wells Index knee mill. I'm very happy so far (now that it's done and I have a faster computer dedicated for the mill). Anyway. Using the MDI I've been getting the directions etc. all setup. The scale all seems perfect. Quad encoders, with I think 10 turns per inch so it's configured for 10000 steps per inch, except Z which is 20000 because the encoder is mounted to the motor, not the handle (geared down with a pulley). So my first G-code. I loaded a pencil and taped down a pad of paper for minal damage caused from unknowns. I loaded it, it appeared correct in the preview window. jog worked fine on x/y. I went to line up the pencil using simple z-.5 and it just kept going. Weird. So in a nut shell. If I open Mach3 (trial version still fwiw) it works perfectly fine as far as I can tell. If I load the G-code and try the same commands from the MDI they run at more than 10x the scale. (Not sure what it is exactly). Any thoughts on this? Scale shows "1.00" on the DRO. Here's the first part of the G-code I loaded (note: I never ran it). Also I used the Mach2 post processor file as I assume it would be compatible:

| I had a similar issue. Is your machine set up in mm? Config>Select native Units.

| It seems to be working fine, but if I had that set wrong would that mean I'd need to reconfigure my motors? |

| No, you shouldn't have to. When you set the machine up to move 1", Mach3 just thought it was moving 1mm. When it saw the G20, it converted what it thought was mm to inches. By changing to inches, it should run exactly the same as it did, it just thinks it's moving in inches now. ![]() Your lucky I made the same mistake. It took me a loooong time to figure out what was going on.
