how to connect a linear scale?

guys how do you connect a linear scale directly to the paralel port? with these pins?
Signal 8 wires cable 9 Pin CAN Remark
+5 V Red 1 TTL&LD
0 V Blue 2 TTL&LD
Output A White 3 TTL&LD
Output B Yellow 4 TTL&LD
Output Z Grey 5 TTL&LD
Output Z non Pink 6 LD
Output A non Brown 7 LD
Output B non Green 8 LD
Shield silver 9 TTL&LD

I imagine with Mach you want to use single ended fashion rather than all 6 differential signals?
If so, it looks like you would use 1,2,3,4 also 5 if you wanted to use the marker.
9 to chassis ground one end.
Mach does not close the loop so what is the intention of using a scale.

I don't really understand what you are saying all I know is that in an encoder it has only A, B , +5v and 0V and maybe index but in this pinout its got A,B,Z, +5v, 0V, -A, -B, -Z??? is Z acting out as index?
Yes mach3 doesn't close the loop but it can read directly from a linear scale right and I just want to compare my numbers if it is too far off from reality or not.

The /A /B & /Z are the complements of the ABC pulses and are for differential detection.
Z is index, if you need to use it.
In all probability you just need to use A & B for your purposes.
This will be a total of 4 connections which includes the 0v and 5+ plus the shield.
