Aspire one+USB to ExpressCard+ExpressCard EPP Parallel Port

This is my question...

I wanna control my machine with an Acer Aspire One, it doesn't have ExpressCard slot and Parallel port neither so I don't know if I can use an USB to ExpressCard adapter and an ExpressCard EPP Parallel Port.

I have the electronics with Parallel Port so I'm not going to use the Smooth Stepper, maybe for my next machine.

Do you think that it can work?

I havent tried such a setup, but i would assume that you will have added latency and non-determenistic delays from all the bridges before the parallel port, which may be a showstopper with mach.

I would go a different way, you have a compact-pcie card slot in it, and you can get compactpci-express to pci bridges, then use a pci parallel port. That said it might be less grief to get a small pc for the machine controller.

EDIT: it may be simpler to get one of the usb based step generators that are supported in mach, dont have much experience with that, but ask around, im sure ppl here do.

But this laptop doesn't have connector for the mini PCI-E card.

ah, i didnt count on them being so cheap as to not fit the connector SmoothStepper or similar might be the best option for you, as its usb based, and does the step generation itself.

I was looking alternatives for smooth stepper but maybe nothing better.
