Using a Shuttlepro as a pendant?

I was thinking about buying a Shuttlepro to use as a pendant with Mach.

I am looking for comments from anyone who has used one. Do they serve the purpose OK, or are they clumsy to use? I really don't want to spend close to $200 on a real one just yet. I see used Shuttlepros on ebay for under $40.

Thanks,
John

Thanks for that tip about Ver 2, crocky. Does that mean the older ones don't work properly? They are the ones I see selling cheap.

A question to all that are using a shuttle.

Have you used an MPG.

My guess is no, that was the case with myself till a week ago.

I now have an MPG, there is no comparison between them.

Cons with the shuttle, in my case changing direction i still had a couple of steps in the wrong direction before the change in direction.

Sometimes when jogging i would release the fast jog button but it would continue to jog sometimes forcing an estop.

That fact is documented on the Mach users forum.

Now the MPG i can spin two turns forward then half a turn back look at the dial the machine will come to rest at the exact position indicated on the MPG.

When setup i can see the jog rate as indicated on the selector switch.

Currently set one turn is either 100mm, 10mm, or 1mm

Thumbs up

Phil,

No doubt an encoder controled MPG is going to be far superior, however the Shuttle Pro is a easy all in one solution for some users that dont want to build up a pendent.

I prefer the encoder driven MPG by the way.

Ah a couple steps here and there's nothing (Monte Python?) wait till you get coolant activating your touch screen....1M per minute feed rate 15mm deep!

I hear ya on the pukka MPG....Only probs is that I'd have to get the dogs danglies from P Homman

Kipper the shuttle also leaves a lot to be desired on shape.

It is meant to be used flat on a table not picked up all the time.

I had a DTI in the chuck went to pick up the shuttle it slipped from my grip and hit the spindle key on the keyboard.

I am not saying a shuttle is bad just not as good as an MPG from here http://www.cnc4pc.com/Store/osc/index.php
