New Win xp.. Do I need upgrades?

I´ve just made a new Win xp instalation (home edition).

Is it best to keep it as clean as possible or will it be better to uprade with the latest service pack in order to run Mach3 without problems?

Never get on the internet with it, and you shouldn't need the service packs or updates. You won't need anti-virus software, either.
