Need some trouble shooting advise. (Master 5)

I have finished constructing the controller portion of my first CNC router project and have finally been able to start doing some testing with it using some small Vexta steppers I picked-up, strickly for testing purposes only. Now the motors are not connected to anything but just spinning in air with a piece of tape on the shafts so I can at least have some type of visual reference. I am using the Xylotex 3-axis board and have decided I will most likely be using Master5CNC for my software since it seems to have all the features I want in a program plus it is meant for use with Windows 98, which is the operating system on my Toshiba laptop. The laptop is a 400mhz Celeron with plenty of RAM.

Now I have setup the motor resolution in Master5 as if they were connected to my ballscrews, so going by that my "Pulses per Inch" are at 8000.

Now when I use the Jog function the motors turn fine without any hesitation and when I load then run one of the Calibration sample files, that is contained with the Demo version, that has straight linear movement the motors run fine also. But when I try to run one of the files that has arcs or radiuses I notice the motors will move abit, then pause, then move abit, then pause and so on until the arc or radius is done. Now the DRO display doesn't display any of this but just counts smoothly without any hesitation.

What could be causing this hesitation? I would have expected the motors to be
moving and incrementing continueously maching with the DRO display.
Could this be a error in the motor settings or could it be the computer is too slow? It seems very responsive when it comes to linear interpolation movements.

Is there anything I should double check in the settings?

Thanks,
Carl

Carl.

I don't have experience with your controller, but depending on how many degrees of rotation there is to the arc, and on the starting point, there could be one or two reversals in rotation of each motor as the arc motion is generated. This would be normal.

If the format for the arc rotation commands is incorrect, there could also be some crazy movements to the motors, which would be due to the controller forcing the motors to "catch up" to where the arc endpoint should be, if it does not reconcile with the startpoint plus arc center commands that were used. A person would asssume that the sample files should work okay, but just double check that you have the settings for absolute or incremental arc centers set correctly in the controller setup.

Well I think I figured out why I was getting those pauses. It seems the arcs in the sample files were created using many individual "G01" lines of code with incremental X, Y values instead of using one "G02" or "G03" line of code. The pausing I was noticing was coming at the end of each line of code. I created a simple G-code file were a couple circles would be plotted using a couple "G02" code lines and tested it. What do you know.... no more pausing. The motors ran without any hesitation through out each circle.

Now if I can only figure out how to get rid of the pausing at the end of each line of code to get everything to appear to move in one motion I will be happy. That's of course if it is possible.

Thanks
