Mach3 general impressions?

Just wanted to get some general impressions about Mach3. The user interface looks a bit basic. Is there any drawbacks to this controller software?

The user interface looks a bit basic
It's fully customisable with the included screen 4 (though rather buggy)

Is there any drawbacks to this controller software?
It'll cost you 160 bucks

6 - 7000 members on the yahoo group can't be bad...

what are you hoping to do?

Other than speed limitations (depending on your encoders/leadscrew pitch), this software is very good. As long as you have a good way to create g-code, your machine will behave in kind. What is it that you want to do with it

Talking

I like it more than I originally thought I would. It's pretty easy to setup, when compared to others.

Tuning the MOTORS is really NICE. Much easier than tuning with pid numbers..

For the money, you can not complain. The unlimited time trial version is free!

I find it to be very usable. It does what it say it does and Art is getting the few bugs out before he makes additional progress on the development.

LazyCam is improving, too and it's included with Mach. LazyCam is still a little quirky when it comes to defining cut order but with a very small amount of legwork in CAD, you can assemble almost any program you want quickly. The simple shapes fly through Lazycam.

I am impressed very with Mach in general. It's easy to use and has quite a bit of capacity for the money.

It rocks. As a controller, it is WAAAY better than the only other program I have experience with, DeskCNC. The advantage of DeskCNC is that it comes bundled with 2D and 3D CAM.

No advantage there - Mach comes with LazyCam.
