License transferable?

Hi, i'll just like to check if the license for MACH3 is transferable. For example, i bought a license, but i no longer need to use it any more. Can i sell it off to another user?

No you can't,
The licence is issued to your name only.
I know of no other software company that would allow a licence to be transfered either.
Not forgetting the licence only cost $159 in the first place, and in reality should have cost a heap more, especially if you also count the years worth of free upgrades too.

You should note:

Just about all software makers state that "the license is not transferable", but the legality of that restriction is dubious due to the first sale doctrine. The enforceability of shrinkwrap or clickwrap "contracts" is an issue that is still being decided by the courts.

Just because a company says you can't, doesn't mean you can't.

That said, I think Mach 3 is a great program at a great price.

No worries about it. I'm just asking because i need a licensed copy of MACH3, but i'm only a student and budget is pretty tight. I was hoping that the license is transferable so i can purchase a second hand license to use.

With that said, is there any student rate for 1 license? Does artsoft entertain such requests?

You are in luck. You can download mach from the website and use it completely for free for as long as you like ( Years even)
The only limitation is you can only run 1000 lines of code at any one time. Any more than that and I guess you are probably past the student status anyway.
You cant get more fairer or generous than that, can you ?

Yep, i'm aware of that. The only problem is that when i try to do pocketing with a 3mm end mill on a 10 by 5 cm stock, my code will shoot over 1000 lines, just pocketing itself.

Actually Art himself has said that you can write multiple programs of 1000 lines each to finish the job. It is a hassle but it is possible.

I personally recommend you work a little side job in addition to school and save the $$ necessary for the license. I promise you it will be one of the best purchases you have ever made.
