Mach2 & IPM

Where in Mach2 can I determine my IPM rate that my stepper motors are moving?

Hi George.

Are you just now getting started in Mach2 setup? If so you might want to go to the yahoooooooo groups and try this link

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mach1m...guid=169082179

I wish we had a lot more folks here that were Mach2 users. You can also email Art directly but when you see how busy he is you will understand it takes him a little to answer.

If you would like to explain a little more detail in waht you are needing I will help if I can.

1. Have you got motors wired and moving?

2. Are the motors moving your machine?

3. Have you gone thru your config setup yet?

Answer these three to start with and we will go from there.
Mike

turmite,
I have all the hardware and Mach2 setup already completed. I am able to move the axis left and right. I just want to measure the motor performance to determine if I should get a bigger stepper. Also, which is the X and which is the Y axis ona gantry type mill? Is the X or Y directly connected to the Z axis?

Thanks,

George I set my gantry machine up to match my cad program. On my machine while facing the machine the x axis moves from l-r and carries the z axis. My home position is lower left corner with z axis up to the limit.

Have you tuned your motors yet? If not this is necessary to get the best performance from them and the only way to tell if they will do what you need or not. If you have not tuned them email me at spambegoneturnercustoms@earthlink.net and of course don't include the spambegone. I am about ready to go to bed but I will help you any way I can.

CORRECTLY Naming your axes

Hello,

The X axis is ALWAYS the axis with the longest TRAVEL, OR the axis which can accomodate the longest WORKPIECE. The Z is ALWAYS the spindle. And the Y is what's left after you have X and Z

Be aware that several manuafacturers and websites INCORRECTLY label an X axis as Y. Super-tech is one example and there are a few plasma guys doing this too.

Remember, it DOES NOT matter which direction an axis "goes" when determining its PROPER name. (These were defined by a USAF standard in the late 50's...)

As to your second question: You set the max speed of your motors in Mach 2 in the motor tuning dialog box. The one with the sliders that make the trapzoid thingie change its height (the max speed, which is in the bos as inches--or mm-- per second), and the steepnes of the ramps, which is the accel value, also in inches per second/per second (or mm/sec/sec)

So a value of 1.5 is 90 IPM. 1 is 60IPM, etc...

Hope this helps,

Ballendo

If you are talking about feedrate, that is set in a DRO labeled feedrate. Click on it directly and set the rate you wish.
