Motors on all the time

Hi guy's, here's my issue. Mach 3, dtlls board, 8 wire motors. I have been through all the setups from dtlls and mach 3. My problem, when i turn on my system the motors are energized and in a frozen state. I have checked all the wiring and it looks right. I checked voltage going to the motor and i have my 2 full time 12 volts to the motor but for some reason the board is grounding one side of each coil sets on the motor. Please help

Buy me a Beer?

Are you saying you can't get them to spin? They are supposed to be locked up when power is applied.

Thats true they won't spin. But these are 3 amp motors that are drawing 13 amps in idle no load mode. Motors overheat and my wires start to melt if I don't turn things off.

It's not a Mach3 problem then. Definately a wiring issue or a short somewhere.

I might agree with you, but wiring has been checked 3-4 times. It happens on all motors and all axis's. I have wired them in a unipolar method as described by dtllc. I have checked the pinout of the db25 cable and it a straight threw cable. I'm sure it's something I have wrong, I just don't what that something is.

What is a dtlls board? Could you post a link to the specs?

Thanks.

It sounds as if you do not have resistors between the motor and power supply. This could melt wires and possible damage the board or motor. Get the specs on you motors and power supply and contact me. I am sure I can get you running like many others.
