I've noticed that, occasionally when I hit a jog button, it won't release. The machine will keep going even after I release the jog button. Of course this usually happens when I'm jogging the Z axis down with a tiny .020" end mill and it gets destroyed! Has anyone else run into this? | If I'm jogging in "continuous" mode then when I stop the axis will carry on as it decelerates, so I need to stop early to allow for this. If I'm in Step mode, then the axis will only move the required step, so if I hold on to, or release the button it makes no difference, it only goes one step. Which mode are you in? |

| UUU You're right that I should give some more information. I've built over a dozen machines over the last 10 years or so, and use from 4 to 6 of them everyday in my cuemaking business. Others I have sold to other cuemakers. While I certainly don't use, and am not familiar with, many of the mach functions that are related to more commercial cnc milling machines, I am very comfortable with Mach and how it's used with my machines. I'm very familiar with the delay you're talking about. I use pretty aggressive feeds and accelerations in my machines, so I don't have a very long ramp down. I'm in continuous mode when this happens, and It's not carryover for the deceleration. The jog actually hangs, and the only thing that will stop it is to hit the E-stop or reset. It has happened from keyboard jogs as well as pendent jogs. I believe it has something to do with the latest development version of Mach3, and it's relation with the smoothstepper. According to Warp9, the developer of the smoothstepper, Mach has changed the way Mach works with plugins, and some older versions may not work properly. Therefore Warp9 is recommending a new plugin that is only compatible with the latest development version of Mach. I would simply go back to the lock down version of Mach if I could get a plugin that would work with it. Anyone else run into this? Royce Bunnell www.obcues.com |

| It definitely sounds like a SmoothStepper issue. I'd ask on their forums. The current lockdown version of Mach3 is very buggy. If you have a plugin that works with the old lockdown version, 3.42.040, I'd use that.

| I won't bother to ask if it's your keyboard sticking then! As a temporary band-aid - would setting a Z-inhibit help - at least to stop it destroying your tools? No actually, that won't work, as I've just tested it and you can jog right past it - it only stop programmed movement. I'm on R3.042.040, and am not using a Smoothstepper, so I'm not realy the person to help - I shall bow out at this point. |
