How does Mach 3 measure spindle speed? Does it count pulses (like 1 per revolution) or is it strictly used as an output?

If you try to make everything idiot proof, someone will just breed a better idiot!
Do you mean for a lathe spindle, or a cutting spindle?

You can have it set up as feed back or as an output AND as both where it will help "tune" the spindle speed.
I think that is what you were looking for

Here is what I am wondering if I can do: I am working on retrofitting my Boss mill with Mach 2/3. If I could mount something on the spindle to trigger a pulse every rotation, then I could more accurately set the spindle speed. Maybe it would even be accurate enough to rigid tap?
