I am in the process of setting up an R&D lab for my company. I want to be able to drive stepper as well as servo motors. The motors we currently deal with are relatively small (12V, <= 1.0 amp/phase), but would like the capability to drive larger motors; maybe up to 5.0 amps. I have chosen Mach3 to generate g-code and have been using a Xylotex 4-axis stepper control board (XS-3525/8S-4). I currently do not have a driver for servos.
I managed to fry the Xylotex board (at least that's the diagnosis from Xylotex) as a result of a brain-dead move (wired a uni-polar motor as bi-polar and didn't isolate the unused motor leads!), so I am in the market for a replacement drive.
One option is to get the exact same board but now I'm a bit leary of this board, thinking there may be other drives that are better protected against ground-fault errors and the like.
So, does anyone have recommendations for drive boards (for stepper and servo motors) that work well with Mach3?
Thanks.
Gerry
