Soft Limit Confusion

I'm a little confused and would like some clarification.

I thought that soft limits were used to limit the machine's travel prior to hitting the limit switch.

So I set my machine all the way forward and to the left and the z axis to the top.

I zero'd out the machine cords.

x/y soft limits to min0 max200.
z soft limit to max0 min-250.

Now when I jog the machine back and forth the machine stops as expected.

However...

When I flip over to the other cord system and zero out the cords to make a part.

The softlimits appear to be enforce based on these cords, not the machine cords.

I.e. I center the endmill in the center of the table then zero the non-machine cords.

I can't move the machine to the left... because the limit is hit.

Anyway, just looking for a little input. I expected the softlimits to be enforced on the machine cords. Not the current g-code cords.

Thanks

Give us a look.

Zip the .xml config file then post it.
If it isn't zipped the browser does dumb things like trying to be a cnc.

Yep , machine has been homed and it gives me the warning about the softlimits when I bring in my program, it won't take into consideration the machine co-ordinate system when I switch from G54(machine co-ordinates) to G55 (workpiece origin co-ordinates)

example
G54 is X = 0, Y = 0 , Z = 0
G55 is X = 100 , Y = 100 , Z = -50

When I call G54 it reverts to the machine co-ordinates
When I call the G55 it makes (if the router is at the machines 0,0,0 position)
X = -100
Y = -100
Z = 50

which causes the softlimits to throw the warning as my limits are setup as
X = -2 to 1030
Y = -2 to 960
Z = 2 to -150

I'm running the latest lockdown version of Mach3, surely there must be a parameter which ignores the workshifts and always looks at the machine co-ordinates no matter what!

It works for me here. Mine is in inches, with my softlimits min -.50.

I changed to G55, and set X and Y offsets to 20.
Back to G54, turn on softlimits.
Back to G55, and my X and Y are at -20, but machine coordinates are 0,0. Mach3 let's me jog to machine -.5, just like it should.

I'd try re-installing Mach3. If that doesn't work, maybe try ceating a new profile from scratch.

Ok I'll give it a try at the machine PC when I get a chance again and keep you posted. I have installed mach3 on another PC at home and have just found it to work like you said and as I've expected. Wierd!

Maybe the install on the machine got screwed up? it was a clean install last night on a fresh PC but somehow not working right
