Can some one please teach me what an XML files is and what does it do?

In the case of MACH, it is a file that stores all of your settings. for example pinouts, switch settings, ect.

Thanks for the prompt response RC. It looks like the entire software world uses XML. I thought it was strictly for use in Mach software.
