    tool comp

    hi all,

i have a question about some sort of tool comp in mach.

many moon ago when i did this cnc lark for living, there was a way of cheating if sizes was not spot on. lets say i had to machine a 50mm square. i would draw it up in a program called CADLINK and do the tool path with a 10mm cutter. i would then input the G-code into the mill (cant remember the software, but it did the same job that mach does.) i would then cut the part. on measuring the part i would find out it was 50.10mm . in stead of re doing the g-code i would go into "its mach" program and say the cutter was 9.90mm. it would then take this into account and move the cutter closer to the job thus taking off an extra .05mm from all sides. the part would now be 50mm.

    hope that made sense.

    any help would be grand.

Take a look at the manual here.

What you would do is go in and change the cutter compensation.

I under stand that the latest release of mach3 has an updated cutter compensation, but I haven't tried it yet.

You need to program your parts using G41/G42 cutter comp. As Mike mentioned, the latest development version of Mach3 has re written comp code, and does not work the same as the old versions. There are some rules you need to follow. Read this.
